2008 Adidas Weightlifting Shoe ?

A Philosophy of Strength and Health weightlifting scoop!

Bud Charniga (link to his great site, Dynamic Fitness) gave me permission to post photos of the new Adidas prototype for the 2008 Olympics. Lou DeMarco looked pretty tough as he trained in them down in the NSCA exhibit hall!

The arch of the shoe is covered in a shiny metallic plastic. Bud said they've tried to increase the ventilation in the shoe, as it is anticipated that the competition and training halls in Beijing will be quite warm. And for whatever reason, people like to see that the heel is solid wood, so the heel is again exposed vs the adiStar/Ironwork. Note the single strap vs the 3-strap models currently being sold. Price will likely run similar to the current adiStar model.

I'm tempted to say:
1. Something about blue suede shoes;
2. That nobody'd mess with a guy man enough to wear baby blue shoes with platform heels ...

But won't.

Is it just the photo or are those shock absorbers in a window over the sole?

The heel is solid wood. There is no "shock" absorption. The mid-foot is covered in a silvery plastic.

They are solid.

I know the heel is wood, but right above it it looks like a crazy shock absorber. Apparently it's just an illusion. But what a wild idea, eh?

Shock absorption would defeat the purpose of the hard heel.

The wood heel looks out of place with the ultra modern uppers. A graphite heel would look great and be lighter too.

I didn't even know they made weight lifting shoes. Maybe they would help with my clean. They look pretty wild.

Wooden heels? That must be comfortable for about one minute. I guess it is strictly for lifting?

Thanks for the post.! I am a university level weightlifter and I always wear adidas weightlifting shoes for a better comfort and control. Wooden heel is really give extra support.

Where can I buy them? I like them blue but in the Dynamic Fitness link they just show the white and Black one

The blue shoes were demo shoes. Guess they decided to only make white.
